"Canned Goods" is a project that I started accidentally around 2004. In the process of creating my other artwork I found that there was a lot of waste material. Specifically paint leftovers that were eiter scraped off of my canvas and panel painting or dried up on my pallet. I began collecting this material in left-over canning jars that i had laying around. I tried many times to use this material to create art by attaching it to paingings and it was never really successful. As my collection of waste materials grew I began to look more carefully at the jars, more carefully arrange what was in them, and began taking photographs. I soon realized I like my jars more than I liked my paintings. At that point I began scowering antique shops and yard sales for more unique containers for my project.... and this is the result. I was very happy to recycle all the beautiful waste materiall and give it a second chance to be art. My Canned Goods collection continues to grow daily... now approaching 200.
